How do I prepare for my shoot?
Get plenty of rest the night before and get as much sleep in the days leading up to your shoot. Hydrate. Water is your friend. More importantly, try not to stress! It will show on the outside which doesn't make for the best of headshots. Go to your happy place and know it's all going to be all right because it's really not as nerve racking as it feels.
How long is a headshot session?
Depending on the package you choose, sessions last anywhere from 30 minutes to 1.5 hours. A session may wrap up quickly if we feel we've gotten the shot and sometimes a little longer as we work together to get that winning image. Don’t worry, I'm not watching the clock during the session so you won't ever feel rushed.
Is hair & makeup included? IS Retouching INCLUDED?
Hair & Makeup are not included in any of the packages. My recommend is that you come to your headshot session with their hair done as you would wear it to an audition or a nice occasion. Light makeup for a natural look.
Good skin is essential for the stage, in front of the camera, and in everyday life. The better your skin looks naturally, the better your headshots will look overall. It helps to have a good skin care regimen in order to keep your skin looking camera ready. However, don't drastically change your skin care routine the night before your session. It takes about 3 weeks for skin cells to turn over after reacting or improving from the use of a new product.
That being said, I can fix most things in post. I’ll retouch any lighting / clothing imperfections, do color correction, clean up flyaway hairs, soften wrinkles and even out your skin tone, apply makeup . . . all to make sure you look your absolute best! See Retouching for examples.
WHAT IS A LOOK? WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
A look is a wardrobe or background change. Adding or taking away small articles of clothing (glasses, a jacket, a tie, etc.) does not count as a different look.
It’s always best to keep your wardrobe simple. Try to avoid tops with bold patterns, prints, or anything that makes you look bulky. Layers are great. Logos and branding are bad, though if it's something you love to wear and the logo or branding is small and isn't too obnoxious, I can fix it in post.
Saturated and solid colors work best for headshots; things that'll bring out your eyes. That being said, avoid colors that are unnecessarily bold like neon green or hot pink. What you wear should not distract from you.
For some inspiration or clarification, feel free to look at the different headshots in my Portfolio to get an idea of what previous clients have worn. When in doubt, bring options and we can select your wardrobe before the session begins.
Can I bring a guest?
Absolutely. If you'll feel more comfortable and relaxed, feel free to bring along your friend, parent, or significant other with you while you're doing your shoot. So long as your guest isn’t a distraction, they're more than welcome.
DO YOU SHOOT IN A STUDIO OR OUTDOORS?
I do not shoot in a studio. Outdoor headshots are good for all different looks and options with natural lighting and blurred backgrounds. This means the session will be weather dependent.
What is the policy for cancellations / rescheduling?
A 50% deposit is non-refundable, but can be applied to a shoot at a later date if you reschedule in time. A rescheduling request must be done 48 hours before your session date. If you must reschedule last minute, you may pay a $25 rescheduling fee to avoid losing your payment completely.
Where should I get my headshots printed?
I highly recommend Reproductions.
